From community service to Islamic education, skills development, and lifelong learning in Meedhoo.

How We Came Here

From a community concern to a registered foundation.

Education and awareness are integral to human existence. In small island communities, young people often need local learning opportunities that are accessible, relevant, and connected to the real needs of the community.

Shamsuddin Centre for Islamic Studies and Yoosuf Naib Foundation grew from this need. The work began with Quran education support, then expanded into community service, awareness, skills development, accredited training, and civil society engagement.

Today, YNF carries this work forward as the legal guardian of Shamsuddin Centre for Islamic Studies, with a renewed focus on Quran and Hadith education, vocational training, IT skills, and community wellbeing.

Yearly Progress

Milestones that shaped the work

2008

Early Quran education support

The work began by sponsoring a Quran teacher for a preschool, creating a practical starting point for organized Islamic education in the community.

2010

Foundation formed by the Meedhoo community

Young people from Meedhoo gathered in Male and committed to reviving the island social and educational spirit through structured community work.

2010

Community service and public activities

The foundation supported social centre repairs, sports and entertainment activities, the Khithaan Festival, environmental work, and public awareness efforts.

2012

Quran classes, Qari courses, and competitions

Quran classes for children and adults, Qari certificate courses, and annual Quran competitions strengthened recitation, Hifz, and Qiraath activity.

2019

Accredited higher education programs

The newly completed Shamsuddin Centre began formal affiliations with higher education institutions, including Sharia law and office management programs.

2020

UCMAS learning program

UCMAS classes supported children aged four to fourteen with structured mental arithmetic learning over two years.

2021

Government Polytechnic program

In collaboration with Maldives Polytechnic, 16 out of 24 participants completed Wiring Certificate Level 3.

2024

Official registration of Yoosuf Naib Foundation

YNF was officially registered as a civil society organization and became the legal guardian of Shamsuddin Centre for Islamic Studies.

Partnerships with colleges and training providers brought higher education opportunities to the island.

Programs such as UCMAS and Polytechnic training supported practical skills and future pathways.

Acknowledgement
